Iran: What's Next After President Raisi's Death?

Iran's Future Uncertain Amidst Regional Tensions

By Sean Seddon and Daniele PalumboBBC News

Following the untimely death of President Ebrahim Raisi, Iran finds itself at a critical juncture, facing both internal and external challenges that will shape its future.

The Islamic Resistance in Iraq, an Iran-backed militia, has claimed responsibility for a recent attack on a military base in Iraq, further escalating tensions in the region. Meanwhile, the US, in collaboration with Komala party fighters, carried out drone strikes against targets in Iran, reportedly hitting buildings in Zargwez.

In response to these events, Iran's Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei declared five days of public mourning for President Raisi. The Iranian news agency FARS revealed that one of the targets hit by drones was an army radar at the Isfahan province military base.

The world watches with bated breath as Iran navigates this tumultuous period. The actions of regional and global powers, coupled with the internal dynamics of Iran itself, will undoubtedly influence the country's path forward.
