Beirut files UNSC complaint against 'Israel' for Civil Defense killing
Lebanese PM decries 'premeditated attack' on peacekeepers
Hezbollah chief Nasrallah threatens 'appropriate' response
Lebanon has filed a complaint with the UN Security Council (UNSC) against 'Israel' over an airstrike that killed a peacekeeper from the UN Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
The Lebanese government condemned the attack as a "premeditated attack" on peacekeepers and said it "holds 'Israel' fully responsible for the consequences of this dangerous aggression."
Hezbollah chief Hassan Nasrallah threatened an "appropriate" response to the attack, saying that 'Israel' would "pay the price" for its actions.
The UNIFIL peacekeeper was killed in an airstrike on a UN observation post in the southern Lebanese village of Qana. The airstrike also injured three other peacekeepers.
The UNIFIL mission has been deployed in Lebanon since 1978 to help maintain peace and security in the region.
The attack on the UNIFIL peacekeepers comes at a time of heightened tensions between Lebanon and 'Israel'.
In recent weeks, 'Israel' has carried out a series of airstrikes on targets in Lebanon, including Hezbollah positions.
The Lebanese government has accused 'Israel' of violating Lebanese airspace and sovereignty with its airstrikes.
'Israel' has said that its airstrikes are necessary to defend itself against Hezbollah attacks.
The airstrikes have raised concerns about the possibility of a wider conflict between Lebanon and 'Israel'.
The UN has called on both sides to exercise restraint and avoid further escalation.
The UNSC is expected to discuss the complaint filed by Lebanon in the coming days.
